At our October 2015 meeting the Hillsborough Garden Club approved a donation of $750 to support the construction of a Patrick Dougherty Stickwork sculpture to be built along the downtown section of the Riverwalk. The following is a report from Nancy Espersen regarding the progress of the project. Be sure to view the gallery of photos posted below.
Construction of the Stickwork Hillsborough sculpture continues with volunteer crews working shifts from 8 – noon and 1 – 5 today, as well as tomorrow (Saturday) and next week Monday – Thursday. If you haven’t had a chance to see it first hand, I would encourage you to find time to go and take a look! It is fascinating to watch the volunteers weave and intertwine the branches and see the towers grow taller and become stronger.
The sculpture is located near the Weaver Street Market/Public Parking Garage entrance to Riverwalk. Walk down the bridge heading west to Gold Park – you will see Stickwork and Hillsborough Arts Council banners that will lead you to the site.
An invitation has been sent to the members of the Hillsborough Garden Club for the Stickwork Thank You Reception. It will be Friday, November 20 from 5 – 7 pm at the Whitted Building at 300 West Tryon. If you plan to attend, send an RSVP to email@example.com
And please plan to attend the grand opening/ribbon cutting ceremony for Stickwork Hillsborough on Saturday, November 21 at noon. It will be a wonderful celebration which will include the announcement of the name Patrick Dougherty has chosen for this sculpture. It is a public event – everyone is welcome.
Thanks again for helping bring Stickwork to Hillsborough!
