Montrose Opens for Visitors

Montrose - wikicommonsGarden Open Day at the historic Montrose in Hillsborough will be October 3rd from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. The nursery will be open with plants for sale. You may bring a few friends, but please email ( their addresses in advance so they can be sent invitations. There is no charge and reservations are not needed for Montrose Open Day.

Montrose has a unique collection of containers.  Our workshop on September 26th will feature discussions of types, history, and uses of many of these urns and other containers.  We will talk about suitable plants and soils for various conditions and locations in the garden.  We will have a selection of gift plants to take home, as well as a collection of photographs from the Montrose Gardens.  The nursery will be open immediately following the workshop.  Space is limited to 25 people, and the cost is $60. To reserve a space, please send an email to and, when confirmed, mail your check for $60 made out to Montrose Foundation to PO Box 957, Hillsborough, NC 27278.  In the event of inclement weather or fewer than 10 registrants, the workshop will be cancelled and full refunds will be issued.

Both of these events are offered by the Montrose Foundation, which now manages the gardens at Montrose.  Proceeds will go to the endowment of the foundation, which is committed to the maintenance in perpetuity of Montrose as a center for horticulture and the arts.
